I think I'm infected by the same virus, but I'm not completely sure. I'm getting the same errors: ccEvtMgr.exe error, no norton AV is working, and I can't get to symantec sites. I have included a copy of my HiJackThis log. Should I follow the instructions you printed above? Thanks!

Reboot your PC into SAFE MODE

Scan with HijackThis and when it finishes, put an x in the boxes next to these items, then press *fix checked*

While still in SAFE MODE, delete the following files and/or folders named in bold

Reboot back into normal mode and get an online AV scan immediately at one (preferably two) of the following:

Let them remove any infected files found.

Reboot your PC between each scan.

If your NAV is working again, get the latest updates and scan your system with that as well. (If NAV is NOT working, let us know - provide links to fix it)

After all that is done, please scan once more with HijackThis and post a new log back here and let us know how you are doing at that point.

Ok, first off, thanks so much for your help! Everything is kinda working now. I can do LiveUpdate with Norton AV. After deleting the files you mentioned I rebooted and scanned with PC-cillin (Housecall). That found one infection of DOS_AGOBOT.HM. After getting all of the Norton Updates I rescanned again. That found 5 more infections - and deleted them. So, the virtual function call error is gone, but I'm getting an error that says:

Norton Protection: ATTENTION!!!
Access Denied, C:\

Every time I boot. I can't empty out the Norton protected files either. I'm not sure what the problem is. I think the viruses are gone though. Anymore suggestions. I've included an updated copy of the HiJackThis evaluation. Thanks again for all the help!

Good job, I do not see it running anyway.

On that one that Norton can't delete, it may be in the System Restore backups. Sometimes, when a PC is infected a copy of the file is backed up in your System Restore (XP and ME). By default, Windows prevents System Restore from being modified by outside programs, which includes your AV program. Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after a virus removal.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(winXP)

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
