Hi All,

After rebooting one of my computers running Windows 2000, it takes a very long time to load up and when it eventually does (after about 15 mins) the Windows Task Manager shows that the process called System is using 99% of the CPU and won't let me do anything. I cannot install Adaware of Hijackthis, because, as I say, "System" is using 99% of the CPU.

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Olja
Hi danfgold :)

Try on line scan:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co...n_principal.htm

And can you see in your Task Manager which process is using all your resources? is it aclient.exe ?
danfgold
Hi Olja,

The process that is using all thwe resources is "System"

I googled around a little and there are many similar problems. How about some details :) Do you have Service packs for win2000 installed? There are some hotfixes in them, and you can see microsoft solutions, you'll know where to look (depending on the details of your problem and OS), here is the link:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...Product=win2000

How about that on-line panda scan?

We need to see a better view of your system configuration, and can help you if you will download this tool to create a diagnostic log and post the log back here.

Download *Hijack This!*

http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/HijackThis.exe

Please make a new folder to put your HijackThis.exe into. Anywhere on your hard drive is fine other than your Desktop or the Temp folder. We suggest you use something like "C:\Program Files\HijackThis" but feel free to use any name. This is to ensure it makes the necessary backups for recovery if needed. Download and save the contents to the new folder you made and then navigate to the HijackThis.exe. Then, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Press that and copy & paste its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet. Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.
