I too have picked up this virus which AVG said could not be put in vault, and also said was in my temp int files IE5, so I deleted the whole temp files.

I have run AVG three times since then and it says " no virus detected" however, if I double click on the "virus detected" from several days ago it says "still infected"

Being an absolute novice I'm puzzled.

Your help would be much appreciated.

I'm not sure what you mean by double clicking on "virus detected" ? Is this a file, a report or what?

In fact, as I just explained to another user, the file cannot be quarantined or repaired. Just delete any infected files found as the trojan or delete the entire contents of your Temporary Internet Files folder. That is your cache where Windows stores copies of the websites you have visited for offline viewing. There is no need to keep those.

If I click on the AVG icon on my desktop, and the on "test results" it shows me a list of tests it has run for the last about three weeks. If no virus is detected it says so, if virus IS detected it says so in BRIGHT RED.

My test results since I deleted my temp int files say there is no virus detected, but if I go back to the one in red from last monday and double click on it, it says IN RED STILL INFECTED, or is that just because AVG couldn't put it in the vault and "heal" it?

Hope that makes sense.

Hi kev,

I have AVG as a backup scanner too. When I opened the test results, yes, I see old reports that have the same thing on files long since deleted - so just old info on prior scans from AVG. It was saying still infected because it could not be repaired and could only be deleted (so don't worry about those old reports). You've deleted the infected files by emptying the TIF folder.

You new scan saying you are clean and no viruses detected is the one that represents your current status.

Hope that helps :)

It certainly does help to know that Calamity Jane, thank you. This is scary stuff when you're new to it.

If you are running Windows XP or ME you also need to reset your restore points....why?

One of the best features of Windows ME or XP is the System Restore option, however if a virus infects a computer with this operating system the virus can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after a virus removal.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.
