Spybot Tutorial, For First Time Use & Scan Options

Spybot Search and Destroy
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4
(choose the country flag first for the version in your language)

You'll need to accept the agreement (put a tick in that box) before the * Next* button will work. Now click *Next*.

It will install by default to your programs folder:
C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy, but will allow you to pick a different folder if you wish. Click next and follow the installation wizard and on the final page click on *Install* and then *Finish* on the next page.

You will now see an Icon for Spybot on your desktop :) Click on that and the program will open.

Now press Settings, and Settings again.
Go to the Webupdate section, and check "Display also available beta versions".



Now press Online, and Search for Updates , put a check mark at, and install all updates.


NOTE: Don't be taken aback by the fact that you will have installed so called "Beta" updates. Unlike is the case with some of its competitors, SpyBot updates are first issued as betas for a few days in order to iron out possible problems.
These are extremely rare, and these particular updates are absolutely reliable.

Getting the Updates is very important - Please do not skip this step

The program will find the updates you need and list them. You now can just click on *Download Updates* to get them :)

This is the next screen you will see. Click *Check for Problems* :)

While Spybot is scanning you will see a progress bar and the time remaining countdown :)

At the end of the scan is a results screen, Spybot has highlighted the red items and put a checkmark in the box for you. These are the items to be fixed.

You can click on the name of any item for a detailed explanation of what each one does if you like.

Don't check off the items in Green letters yet. These may be helpful or even useful, you can check the descriptions later to see what each is and how Spybot will deal with it and you can decide if you want it *fixed* or not.

All you have to do now is click on *Fix Selected Problems*

For example. If I click on the first item above in my list named *Alexa Related*, Spybot will give me and explantion of what it is and how Spybot will fix it. :)

I will be adding more to this tutorial as time permits, but this will get you through the first steps to install and run your first Spybot scan :)
